Orthopedic Surgery and Physiatry.

ABOUT
The pathology of the spine presents a series of challenging complexities for the physician due to the variety of anatomical structures and histhological and functional heterogeneity of its’ components. It’s probably the pathology with the greatest number of medical specialties involved in its’ treatment, like Anesthesiology, General Medicine, Physical Medicine, Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry or Reumatology, besides non-medical contributes like physiotherapy, nutrition, psychology and others.
Given the experience from the Hospital da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa on this subject, it seemed important for the clinical board to share it with the medical community and compare it with the current international gold standards.
From there, the idea of inviting some of the most recognised specialists in the world was born – they kindly accepted to share their experiences and some of the instruments used to help patients with disk pathologies like hernias, degenerations, fractures and tumors, among others, as well as to merge their perspectives on spinal pathology and the clinical practice of the Hospital da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa.
We hope that the discussion is useful for the clinical community that will attend the meeting and that we may all learn together.
